NEWcaSTLE | BGC1008
The Firm:
We are working with a well-established and growing accountancy practice with a strong reputation for providing specialist tax and advisory services to a loyal and diverse client base.
Following a sustained period of growth, the firm is continuing to invest in its people and is looking to appoint an experienced Tax Senior to join its Newcastle team.
The business has a particularly strong presence within the healthcare sector, supporting a substantial portfolio of medical professionals and practices. This provides an excellent opportunity to develop specialist knowledge while gaining broad exposure to both personal and partnership taxation.
The Role:
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Tax Senior looking for more than a traditional compliance role. You will join a supportive and ambitious team where your development is taken seriously, with a clear focus on building your technical expertise, client confidence, and advisory capability.
From day one, you will benefit from a structured induction and an individual development plan designed around your strengths and career aspirations. As your knowledge and confidence develop, you will be encouraged to take increasing ownership of client relationships and become a trusted advisor within the team.
For the right individual, the opportunity offers genuine long-term progression, whether that means developing into a specialist advisor, taking responsibility for a team, or progressing towards a wider management role. You will work closely with senior members of the tax team, supporting a specialist portfolio of clients while progressively taking greater responsibility for your own client relationships.
Your responsibilities will include the preparation and review of personal and partnership tax returns, managing your own workflow and deadlines, and supporting managers with a variety of advisory and client-facing assignments.
As your confidence develops, you will become an increasingly important point of contact for clients, responding to queries, providing practical tax guidance, and working with internal and external specialists where appropriate. You will also have the opportunity to attend client meetings initially alongside senior colleagues, with the expectation that you will progress towards leading meetings independently as your technical knowledge and confidence grow.
An important part of the role will also be supporting junior members of the team, helping them with their own workload and development while continuing to build your own leadership skills.
The firm also encourages its team to stay ahead of changes in legislation and developments affecting clients. You will therefore have the opportunity to contribute to technical updates, client communications, and practical guidance on topical tax issues.
Experience Required:
You will ideally:
Have around three to four years' or more experience within an accountancy practice with strong experience across personal and partnership tax compliance
Be comfortable managing your own workload, portfolio, and deadlines
Have experience using tax and accounts production software
Have strong communication skills, both written and verbal
Be confident dealing with clients or keen to develop your client-facing experience
Have experience supporting or mentoring junior colleagues
Be ATT or CTA qualified, studying towards either, or keen to pursue a professional qualification
Experience with CCH would be advantageous, although other relevant systems experience will be considered.
We are looking for an individual who can become part of a close knit team, someone who brings a positive attitude, takes pride in what they do, and enjoys working as part of a team. You'll be curious, committed to your own development, and motivated by building strong relationships with both colleagues and clients.
Benefits:
This is an opportunity to join a growing practice where progression isn't simply based on time served. Your development will be shaped around your individual strengths, ambitions, and commitment. You will receive:
Competitive reward and recognition package
37 days holidays including bank holidays and additional days for shutdown between Christmas and New Year
Auto-enrolment pension scheme (subject to qualifying criteria)
Health & wellbeing programme
Free onsite parking
