The Organisation:
We’re working with a well-established and reputable organisation in the service sector who are seeking to appoint a confident and experienced Bookkeeper/Finance Officer to join their friendly and close-knit team. Based in the North East, the business is part of a larger group, with local autonomy while reporting into head office finance.
This is a hands-on, office-based role that requires someone self-sufficient and dependable. You’ll be a key member of the team, trusted with overseeing day-to-day local finance operations and supervising a finance apprentice. The culture is collaborative and down-to-earth, making this a supportive environment to be part of.
The position can be offered on either a full-time basis or part-time over a minimum of three days per week, depending on the preference of the successful candidate.
The Role:
Working closely with the wider finance function and reporting into head office, your responsibilities will include:
Supervising and supporting the finance apprentice
Producing accurate and timely sales invoices
Managing the debtor ledger and chasing outstanding payments
Collating and preparing payroll information for processing
Preparing wage analyses and posting wages journals
Managing supplier information and inputting data into QuickBooks
Weekly bank reconciliations
Internal financial reporting and variance analysis
Supporting process and system improvements to enhance reporting accuracy and timeliness
This role offers a great deal of variety and would suit someone with strong technical accounting knowledge and the confidence to work independently in a busy but friendly office environment.
Experience Required:
AAT qualification or equivalent UK bookkeeping experience
Previous experience in a similar finance or bookkeeping role
Proven track record of longevity in previous positions, showing committment and reliability
Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks (preferable)
Confidence in managing and supporting more junior staff
Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach
Strong Excel skills and ability to manipulate data
Good interpersonal and communication skills, able to build relationships across the business
Elegibility to work in the UK without requiring sponsorship
