The Organisation:

An opportunity has arisen to join a unique and diverse organisation with a varied portfolio of interests and a dedicated in-house finance function. Offering something different from a traditional accountancy practice, this role provides exposure to a broad range of tax matters, working closely with colleagues across the business and a network of external professional advisers.

With a collaborative and sociable culture, the organisation offers an environment where people are encouraged to learn, develop and build strong working relationships. The tax team provides support and guidance, making this an excellent opportunity for someone looking to broaden their experience and develop their career in a different setting across all areas of tax.

The Role:

Reporting to the Head of Tax, this is a varied position covering both personal and corporate tax compliance, alongside wider tax planning and reporting responsibilities. You do not need to have experience across every area of tax; a willingness to learn, get involved and develop your technical knowledge is equally important.

Working closely with the Head of Tax, you will liaise with internal colleagues and external advisers to ensure tax obligations are understood, information is accurate and all returns and payments are completed within the required deadlines.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting personal and corporate tax compliance, including income tax, corporation tax, capital gains tax and inheritance tax.

  • Assisting with VAT, Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) reporting and stamp duty matters.

  • Preparing and coordinating statutory and other tax returns, ensuring deadlines are met.

  • Liaising with external tax advisers and internal teams to gather information, resolve queries and coordinate submissions.

  • Supporting tax planning activities and identifying potential changes that may affect the organisation.

  • Monitoring upcoming tax liabilities and contributing to cash flow forecasts, budgets and quarterly reporting.

  • Helping ensure financial information provided to senior colleagues is accurate, clear and timely.

  • Explaining tax and financial matters in an accessible way to colleagues who are not from a finance background.

No two days are likely to be the same, making this a particularly good opportunity for someone who enjoys variety, building relationships and developing a broad understanding of tax.

Experience Required:

  • Experience in a tax-focused role, ideally within accountancy practice or an in-house tax or finance team.

  • Exposure to personal tax and/or corporate tax compliance. Experience across both areas is not essential.

  • A good understanding of tax compliance processes and the importance of meeting statutory deadlines.

  • Strong communication skills, with the confidence to liaise with a range of internal and external stakeholders.

  • A proactive and organised approach, with good attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities.

  • A willingness to learn, take on new responsibilities and develop technical expertise.

  • ATT or CTA qualified, part-qualified or actively studying, or keen to begin professional tax qualifications.

  • Applicants will ideally be able to drive and have access to a car.

Benefits:

  • A competitive salary alongside full study support towards your CTA/ATT exams

  • Free car parking

  • Holidays, pension and all the usual benefits as expected

  • Flexible working from multiple sites including one day from home available

  • Available on a full-time basis but also able to accommodate part-time with a minimum of 3 days a week

  • A genuinely varied tax role covering personal and corporate tax.

  • Opportunity to work outside the traditional accountancy practice environment.

  • Close support and guidance from an experienced Head of Tax.

  • A friendly, sociable team with regular opportunities to get together through meals, walks and other social and outdoor activities.

  • The chance to broaden your technical knowledge, build relationships across the organisation and develop your career in a distinctive environment.

If you are looking for a tax role with variety, flexibility and the opportunity to develop beyond a traditional practice setting, this could be an excellent next step.
