The Firm:

A growing regional accountancy practice with a strong focus on supporting local owner-managed businesses and SMEs is looking to add an Outsourcing Accountant to its Newcastle team.

The firm combines the close client relationships and personal approach of a regional practice with the resources, technology and wider expertise of a larger accountancy group. Its client base is predominantly made up of local SMEs, providing the team with plenty of variety and the opportunity to build strong, long-term relationships.

This is a particularly good environment for an accountant who enjoys working as part of a team and wants to continue learning from experienced accounting professionals. You will join a good-sized team where there is plenty of opportunity to ask questions, share knowledge and develop your skills.

The Role:

Working within the accounts and outsourcing team, you will support a varied portfolio of SME clients, providing a broad range of accounting services.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing statutory accounts for small and medium-sized limited companies, including businesses with more complex accounting requirements.

  • Preparing year-end accounts for sole traders and partnerships.

  • Supporting clients with bookkeeping and wider outsourcing requirements.

  • Preparing and reviewing VAT returns.

  • Working directly with clients to gather information, resolve queries and ensure work is completed efficiently.

  • Preparing high-quality working papers and files for Manager and Director review.

  • Developing an understanding of clients' businesses and providing practical accounting support.

  • Working both from the Newcastle office and, where appropriate, at client sites.

  • Working closely with colleagues across the wider accounts team.

  • Continuing to develop your technical knowledge and accounting skills.

Experience Required:

We are looking for an accountant with previous practice experience who is keen to develop within a supportive and collaborative environment.

Ideally, you will have:

  • AAT Level 4 qualified or equivalent practical experience.

  • Previous experience working within an accountancy practice.

  • Good experience preparing accounts for limited companies, sole traders and partnerships.

  • Knowledge of VAT and general outsourcing services.

  • Strong technical accounting knowledge.

  • Experience using Xero, Sage and/or QuickBooks.

  • Good attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate work.

  • Strong communication skills and confidence dealing with clients.

  • Good organisation and time management skills.

  • A proactive approach and willingness to learn.

  • The ability to work independently while also enjoying being part of a wider team.
