Finance Manager Part-time

£45-55,000FTE | 2-3 days | Permanent
Northumberland | BGC1010

The Business:

We are working with a highly successful and well-established privately owned business operating within the engineering consultancy sector. With an impressive portfolio of UK and international clients, the business has grown significantly through a combination of technical expertise, strong client relationships, and a clear reputation within its market.

The business has now reached an exciting stage where additional senior finance support is required to work alongside the senior management team providing greater financial insight to aid their next phase of expansion, alongside working with their external accountants and inhouse finance administration.

The culture is relaxed, professional, and down to earth, with a team that values autonomy, trust, and getting things done.

The Role:

This is a genuinely interesting opportunity for an experienced finance professional looking for a part-time role where they can still make a meaningful commercial impact.

Working around two or three days per week, you will become an important member of the senior management team, providing regular insight into business performance and helping the owners make informed decisions about the future.

This isn't a role simply focused on producing numbers. The business is looking for someone who can understand what those numbers mean, challenge where appropriate, identify opportunities, and put the right financial processes and controls in place to support continued growth.

The role would ideally be office-based initially, allowing you to build relationships with the team and understand the business, with the potential for a more flexible hybrid arrangement over time.

Working closely with the senior management team, you will take responsibility for providing strong management accounting and financial reporting, ensuring the business has clear and timely information on its performance.

You will support the existing Finance Administrator with technical queries and provide additional financial expertise, working alongside the company's external accountants where appropriate.

Your responsibilities will include management reporting, budgeting, cashflow forecasting, financial analysis, and monitoring performance across the business and its individual divisions. You will be expected to translate financial information into clear commercial insight and help the management team understand the implications of business performance and future decisions.

A key part of the role will be reviewing and developing the company's existing financial processes and procedures. As the business continues to expand, you will help ensure its systems, controls, and reporting infrastructure are robust enough to support that growth.

You'll therefore have the opportunity to shape how finance operates within the business rather than simply inheriting an established finance function.

Experience:

We are looking for an experienced accountant who combines strong technical finance skills with a practical and commercial approach.

You may be professionally qualified or qualified by experience. More important is your ability to understand a business, work independently, and provide meaningful support to senior decision-makers.

You will ideally have:

  • Strong management accounting and financial reporting experience

  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and cashflow management

  • A background supporting an SME or professional services/engineering environment

  • Experience developing financial processes, controls, and reporting

  • Previous exposure to cost analysis is beneficial

  • The confidence to work directly with senior management and challenge constructively

  • A practical, commercially minded approach rather than a purely technical focus

  • Experience working alongside external accountants or advisers

Experience within industry or professional practice will be considered; we're more interested in your ability to provide the right level of financial and commercial support than the sector you have come from.

This role will suit someone who enjoys having an influence and wants to see the difference their work makes.

You'll be comfortable operating with a degree of autonomy, but equally happy working alongside the existing finance resource and wider management team. You'll be someone who asks questions, looks beyond the immediate numbers, and is prepared to roll up your sleeves when required.

Benefits:

Alongside a competitive salary you will receive an enhanced pension, 25/26 days holiday, bonus and health benefits.
