Accounts Assistant

£Competitive | Full-time | Permanent
Northumberland | BGC1025

The Firm:

A unique opportunity for an experienced Accounts Assistant looking for a stable, long-term role in a truly distinctive working environment. This is a rare opportunity to join a well-established private organisation with a diverse range of interests and a finance function that plays a key role in its day-to-day operations. Offering something a little different from a traditional finance role, this position would suit someone who enjoys being part of a close-knit team, taking ownership of their work and building a long-term future with an employer.

The Role:

Working closely with the finance team, you will take ownership of key transactional processes, managing high volumes of purchase and sales invoices through to VAT and bank reconciliations, ensuring everything is processed accurately, efficiently and on time.

This is a hands-on role for someone who already knows their way around a busy finance function. With complex transactions and a varied workload, you will need the experience and confidence to hit the ground running. This is not a training position, so a solid background in transactional finance is essential.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the end-to-end purchase invoice process, including matching, coding, checking and processing high volumes of invoices.

  • Preparing weekly payment runs and maintaining accurate supplier records.

  • Reconciling supplier statements, investigating discrepancies and resolving queries.

  • Supporting sales and rental ledger activities, including invoicing, cash allocation and query resolution.

  • Completing bank reconciliations and supporting routine financial reporting.

  • Ensuring VAT is applied correctly and financial controls are followed.

  • Building positive relationships with suppliers, customers and colleagues across the wider organisation.

Experience Required:

You will be an experienced finance professional with ideally 5–10 years or more of relevant transactional finance experience, particularly within purchase ledger and sales ledger processing.

You will be confident managing a busy workload, comfortable working with high volumes of invoices and able to take responsibility for your processes without needing constant supervision.

Just as importantly, you will be someone who is approachable, proactive and enjoys working with others. Strong communication skills, a positive attitude and a willingness to get involved will be key to your success.

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Accurate, organised and confident managing competing priorities.

  • Experienced in purchase ledger, sales ledger, VAT and bank reconciliations.

  • Comfortable using finance systems and Microsoft Excel.

  • A clear communicator who enjoys building good working relationships.

  • Reliable, hardworking and keen to become a valued, long-term member of the team.

  • Experience within property, or leisure would be an advantage, although this is not essential.

Benefits

This is a genuinely unusual opportunity to join an established organisation where no two days are necessarily the same. The role offers the chance to become an important part of a small, collaborative finance team while working within a distinctive and varied business environment.

The role is office based, with free parking but does offer flexibility on start and finish times.

Salary is reflective upon experience and comes with pension, good holidays and various other benefits. Come and talk to us to learn more about what is on offer.
