Accountant
£28-40,000DOE | Full or Part-time | Permanent
NEWcaSTLE | BGC2438
The Firm:
A friendly and well-established independent accountancy practice based just outside Newcastle upon Tyne is looking to welcome a new Accountant to their close-knit team.
The firm has built a strong reputation for supporting small and medium-sized businesses across the region and prides itself on offering a professional yet relaxed working environment. With easy access via public transport and free parking on site, the office provides a comfortable and supportive setting where people genuinely enjoy working together.
Due to a combination of continued client growth and an upcoming period of maternity leave, the Partners are now seeking additional permanent support within the team. This creates a flexible opportunity for an Accountant who enjoys general practice work and would value being part of a small, collaborative firm with an excellent work-life balance.
The Role:
This is a varied position within a general practice environment, where you will work closely with the Partners to support a diverse portfolio of owner-managed businesses.
The firm is open to shaping the role around the right individual. For some, this may mean focusing on statutory accounts preparation, while others may lean more towards tax return preparation — with the aim of helping balance workloads across the existing team.
Typical responsibilities may include:
Preparing statutory year-end accounts for a portfolio of clients
Completing personal and/or corporate tax returns
Preparing and submitting VAT returns
Supporting clients with bookkeeping queries and financial records
Liaising directly with clients to gather information and answer accounting queries
Assisting with management accounts where required
Liaising with HMRC and third parties when necessary
This is a role that offers real variety and the chance to work closely with clients, gaining excellent exposure across different industries and business types.
The firm is also flexible in terms of working hours, and would happily consider full-time or part-time arrangements depending on the needs of the right individual.
Experience Required:
We are looking for an Accountant (qualified, part-qualified or by experience) who has experience working in a general accounting practice and can offer the skill sets required to prepare year end financial statements for clients and or tax compliance.
Your experience will have been gained to UK accounting standards, able to hit the ground running in this position.
The ideal individual will be someone who enjoys working as part of a small team, is proactive in supporting colleagues, and takes pride in delivering a high standard of service to clients.
Benefits:
Supportive and friendly office environment
Exposure to a wide range of owner-managed businesses
Flexible working hours with some hybrid working available
Study support available if you wish to continue professional exams
23 days annual leave plus bank holidays and additional time over Christmas
Free on-site parking
This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking for a stable, varied role within a supportive local practice, where flexibility and work-life balance are genuinely valued.
