You’ll be joining a sociable and supportive team who trust you to manage your workload independently, with the option to work part-time or full-time depending on your availability. Whether you're coming from practice or industry, if you're confident using Xero and managing multiple clients, we'd love to hear from you.

The Role:

Managing bookkeeping for a portfolio of clients, including limited companies, partnerships, and sole traders:

  • Posting purchase and sales invoices, allocating payments, and reconciling ledgers

  • Performing bank reconciliations and managing multiple client bank feeds

  • Preparing and submitting VAT returns in line with Making Tax Digital (MTD) requirements

  • Using cloud-based software Xero to maintain real-time financial records

  • Supporting clients with day-to-day queries and helping them understand their numbers

  • Liaising with other internal departments such as accounts, tax, and payroll to ensure accuracy and completeness

  • Assisting in the preparation of management accounts where required and where capabilty permits

  • Reviewing bookkeeping records provided by clients or junior staff to ensure completeness

  • Supporting payroll processing during peak times (e.g., data collation using BrightPay)

  • Keeping track of filing deadlines and working proactively to meet client timetables

  • Building long-term client relationships by providing consistent, reliable service

  • Maintaining confidentiality and ensuring GDPR compliance when handling client data

Experience required:

  • A minimum of AAT Level 3/4 or equivalent hands-on experience

  • Strong Xero knowledge is essential

  • Prior experience in bookkeeping and VAT either in practice or industry

  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Well-organised and comfortable managing multiple client needs

  • Experience in BrightPay or payroll support is helpful but not essential

Benefits:

  • Hybrid working: split your time between home and a relaxed office

  • Part- or full-time hours to suit your lifestyle (minimum 20 hours/week)

  • Free on-site parking in Jesmond

  • 25 days holiday (plus bank holidays)

  • Auto-enrolment pension scheme

  • Supportive team culture, with the opportunity to learn new skills over time, including year-end accounts if that is of interest

  • A stress-free environment where you can focus on your work, then switch off when you leave for the day

If you're looking for a varied bookkeeping role with a friendly and flexible firm that truly values its staff, this could be the perfect move.
