Personal Tax Senior

£28-36,000FTE | Full or part-time | Permanent
newcastle | BGCT 2428

The Firm:

This is a small, well-established accountancy practice with a strong reputation for looking after both its clients and its people. The culture is calm, supportive and refreshingly pressure-free — a genuine alternative to high-volume, high-stress tax environments. The firm places a real emphasis on sensible workloads, flexible working and creating an environment where people enjoy coming to work.

Based on the outskirts of Newcastle, the office is easily accessible via public transport, with nearby permit parking available.

The Role:

An opportunity has arisen for a Personal Tax Senior to join a friendly team that holds a wealth of knowledge and long service, testament to their high employee satisfaction. Working closely with an experienced Tax Manager, the role offers excellent exposure across the full personal tax lifecycle, with a strong focus on compliance alongside some advisory and planning work.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys personal tax but is ready for a more balanced, supportive environment — particularly appealing if the current tax season has highlighted the pressures of their existing role. This is a chance to make a move now and approach the next tax season in a much calmer setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Managing a varied personal tax portfolio including sole traders, landlords, company directors and non-resident individuals

  • Preparation and submission of Self Assessment tax returns

  • Preparation and submission of 60-day Capital Gains Tax returns where applicable

  • Communicating tax liabilities clearly to clients and guiding them through payment deadlines

  • Identifying tax planning opportunities within the portfolio and escalating these for discussion

  • Supporting the Tax Manager on ad-hoc advisory and planning assignments

Experience Required:

  • Experience managing a personal tax portfolio within an accountancy practice

  • Strong working knowledge of the Self Assessment process end-to-end

  • ATT qualified or qualified by experience

  • Good technical personal tax knowledge, with the ability to research and explain matters clearly

  • Confident communicator, comfortable dealing directly with clients

  • Proactive, organised and service-driven, without needing a high-pressure environment to perform

Benefits:

  • Competitive salary

  • Up to 33 days’ holiday including bank holidays

  • Flexible working hours

  • Supportive, low-pressure working environment

  • Exposure to a broad range of personal tax work

  • Learning and development opportunities

  • Study support considered for the right candidate

  • Time Off in Lieu (TOIL) available

  • Full or part-time hours available, minimum 3 days required
