The Role:
Payroll can be a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment, but it is also a role where attention to detail, teamwork and client relationships make a real difference.
As a Payroll Assistant, you’ll become an important part of the payroll team, supporting the accurate and timely processing of payroll for a portfolio of clients. You’ll have the opportunity to develop your technical knowledge, gain exposure to a range of payroll requirements and work alongside experienced colleagues who are committed to delivering a high standard of service.
Your responsibilities will include:
Processing payroll accurately, including new starters, leavers and temporary or permanent changes to employee details.
Preparing and processing payroll information in line with agreed deadlines.
Producing payroll reports and supporting the completion of relevant submissions.
Acting as a point of contact for client and employee payroll queries by telephone and email.
Assisting with pension administration, including auto-enrolment and ongoing compliance requirements.
Liaising with HMRC on payroll-related matters where required.
Supporting the team with payroll reconciliations, checks and general administration.
Keeping client records accurate and up to date.
Working collaboratively with colleagues to ensure payroll deadlines are met and issues are resolved promptly.
Staying informed about changes to payroll legislation, processes and compliance requirements.

Experience Required:
We are looking for someone with previous payroll experience who is organised, conscientious and keen to continue developing their career within a payroll bureau environment.
You will ideally have:
A sound understanding of payroll processes and statutory requirements.
Experience processing payroll changes accurately and within deadlines.
Knowledge of pension administration and auto-enrolment.
Good written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to deal with client queries.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify and resolve issues.
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
Experience using payroll software such as Brightpay or STAR.
Previous experience within an accountancy practice or payroll bureau is preferred.
