The Firm:
A North East based accountancy firm with a network of offices are looking to appoint an Accounts Senior or Assistant Manager to their accounting and advisory team, supporting the Manager with further growth. The Role:
Working with your own portfolio of SME and OMB clients, this position will see you undertake full statutory accounts preparation with progression to reviewing the work of other team members as you support the Manager with the growth and expansion of the team.
Manage a portfolio of clients, acting as a key point of contact and ensuring high-quality service delivery.
Review financial statements and year-end accounts prepared by junior team members, providing feedback and guidance as needed.
Prepare more complex accounts for limited companies.
Support the Partners and Manager in managing workflow, ensuring deadlines and compliance requirements are met.
Assist with the preparation of management accounts and ad hoc financial reports.
Oversee bookkeeping and VAT returns, ensuring accuracy and adherence to relevant regulations.
Mentor and support junior staff, helping with their development and training.
Identify opportunities to add value to clients through process improvements, efficiencies, and advisory work.
Liaise directly with clients, HMRC, and other stakeholders in a professional and timely manner.
Contribute to business development by supporting proposals and helping to grow client relationships.
Experience Required:
ACA/ACCA 1-2 years post qualified or qualified by experience.
Proven experience in a practice environment, ideally with exposure to limited companies.
Strong experience in preparing and reviewing financial statements and year-end accounts.
Solid understanding of corporate and personal taxation, bookkeeping, and VAT compliance.
Experience managing or supervising junior staff, providing guidance, mentoring, and supporting their development (for the Assistant Manager).
Track record of handling a client portfolio, acting as a point of contact and building strong client relationships.
Experience working to deadlines and managing multiple priorities in a busy practice environment.
Familiarity with accounting software and Microsoft Office (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, Excel).
Excellent communication skills – both written and oral with an interest to develop key client relationships.
Team player as well as being able to work independently.
